Channel Catfish

Flathead Catfish

All or most feed in the upper third layer of water. Water temperature and barometric pressure have
very little affect on feeding habits. All Catfish feed on Live Bait, bream, minnows, crawdads, worms.
The primary bait is bream around three inches long, they will eat beef or chicken liver, or prepared blood bait.

Species: Channel Cat, Blue Cat, Flathead Cat, Yellow Cat (mud), Bullhead Cat

Water Types: Channel Cat- Ponds, lakes or streams
Blue Cat- mainly streams of backwater
Flathead Cat- still water or backwater
                      Yellow Cat (mud)- still water
                      Bullhead Cat- still water

Catfish are known worldwide for their fighting spirit. Add a little current and you have a combination that will destroy poor quality rods and reels. A medium action 6-7 foot rod with 12 pound test line will land a large cat but be prepared for a lengthy battle. You have a good chance of breaking your line, rod or reel and losing a trophy fish. We recommend using a medium-heavy 7-9 foot rod with a good quality bait casting reel or spinning reel spooled with at least 20 pound test line. Reels should have a good drag and large line capacity.
